Shrubs Recipe
Shrubs Recipe
Shrubs are a vinegar-based syrup that you can use to make mocktails and/or cocktails. I often add them to sparkling water to add more fun flavor.
You can make many different kinds of shrubs in whatever flavor combinations you want.
Some of my favorites have been:
Blackberry lavender
Strawberry kiwi lime
Pineapple clementine habanero
Grapefruit rosemary
What You’ll Need:
A carton of berries or a large piece of fruit
1 cup of sugar
Fine mesh strainer
Apple cider vinegar
Any flavors you want to add
Here’s an example of the strawberry kiwi lime recipe:
Cut up 1 carton of strawberries and 2 kiwis into large chunks.
Add to a bowl with 1 cup of sugar. Mix it well so the sugar covers all of the fruit.
Cover the bowl and let it sit for 24 hours.
After it has sat, strain the juices into a jar. Discard the pieces of fruit (or eat!).
Add in equal parts apple cider vinegar.
Add in the lime juice (or whatever other flavorings you want).
Put the lid on the jar and store in the fridge for a week, stirring occasionally.
After one week, add to sparkling water or cocktails to taste!
